History of ActivCare®
ActivCare® Residential Alzheimer's Care
Health Care Group, as an owner and operator of skilled nursing and retirement facilities, recognizes a need to provide appropriate Alzheimer's care that bridged the gap between retirement living and nursing care.
In 1988, the first ActivCare® program was opened in California with assistance from Alzheimer's disease specialists and care giving families. This new 24-hour residential living program utilized many of the benefits found in Alzheimer's day care programs and coupled them with trained and loving caregivers. The program quickly evolved, grew and succeeded with three additional programs and a total of 350 residents in Southern California. Three of the programs were involved in a three-year pilot project study (SB 481) by the State of California Department of Social Services. The positive outcome of the studies performed as a result of SB 481 resulted in the passage of SB 732, which authorizes the use of secured perimeters in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly that care for persons with dementia.
Since 1988, ActivCare® has cared for more than 3,000 residents. Our goal then and now is to assist persons with Alzheimer's disease in building on their personalities and strengths to enhance their quality of life.
Each of the ActivCare® programs provide Alzheimer's residents with a secure environment, a non-judgmental, loving atmosphere, stimulating activities, and trained, caring staff. All of these compliment one another in providing each resident with a comfortable and non-threatening environment that promotes self-esteem and individual dignity.
